Under the supervision of the Chief Estimator, the incumbent analyzes construction costs and prepares bids in order to obtain contracts for Sidcan's construction.
Carry out the quantitative evaluation in materials and labor of the work deemed critical and verify the quantities given by the estimators;
Discuss the work methods to be applied, parts of the work to be subcontracted, risks and constraints of the call for tenders.
Prepare the summary of quantities based on the plans and specifications and classify them according to the standard sections and functions of the trades involved.
Attend site visits and evaluate the difficulty of the project to be estimated;
Supervise the junior estimator during the realization of the quantity survey of the quantities judged determining in connection with the difficulty of the project to be estimated;
Research project-specific prices (materials or subcontractors) following the analysis of the bid documents;
Invite subcontractors and, if necessary, send them the documents related to the work involved and give them access to the virtual plan room;
Ensure the content of all amounts received from suppliers and subcontractors and verify their compliance with the requirements of the tender documents during the compilation and closing of tenders;
Establish a preliminary work schedule;
Participate in bid closings;
Participate and/or coordinate the various participants in the estimation of a "Design-Build" project;
Prepare budget estimates according to the Uniformat II standard
Maintain up-to-date and regular contact with subcontractors and suppliers in the company's database;
Assist the chief estimator in the search for new contacts (suppliers, subcontractors and clients);
Suggest and quantify alternatives to bid documents to reduce construction costs on bid projects;
Train new estimators.
Any other related duties.
Hold a DEC in building estimating, architecture, civil engineering or equivalent. (University degree in a related field would be an asset)
Hold a professional certification ESCQ or ECCQ will be considered an asset;
Have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in estimating commercial and institutional projects for a general construction contractor;
Good knowledge of excavation and formwork;
Knowledge of PLANSWIFT and SMARTBID software will be considered an asset.
